Ocean Freight Shipping To Suriname

Ocean Freight Shipping to Suriname

by

Christine Richard

Suriname is officially called the Republic of Suriname. Located in South America near French Guiana, Brazil, and Guyana, Suriname is also on the Atlantic Ocean. Its location on the Atlantic Ocean makes it an ideal location to use ocean freight shipping.

In Suriname, the Atlantic Ocean is located along the Northern Coast. Most of the approximately 560,000 people in this small sovereign state of South America live along this Northern Coast. The state s capital, Paramaribo, is also located along the Northern coast. The proximity of the Atlantic to the vast majority of the population makes ocean freight a great option when shipping to Suriname.

Ocean freight shipping is often an excellent alternative to air freight shipping for a range of reasons. Ocean freight does take a little longer than air shipments. However, the cost of using ocean freight is significantly less than sending items via air. For many people, this cost savings is a big, worthwhile benefit of opting for ocean freight shipments.

Ocean freight is also a shipping option that provides you a lot of flexibility as far as what you can send to Suriname. When you ship via air freight, you tend to be more limited in the size of goods that can be sent due to space constrictions and due to the added cost of sending heavy, large, or oddly shaped items. With ocean freight shipments to Suriname, on the other hand, these limitations are not as much of an issue- the boat can accommodate larger shipment amounts and the cost typically remains reasonable. This can allow you to send large quantities of items if you are doing business in Suriname and also large and heavy cargo for either personal or business use.

When you choose a shipping company that provides ocean freight shipping to Suriname, you should be sure to ask how much flexibility they have as far as accepting shipment sizes. You want a company that will allow you to send less than a full cargo container in case you only have a few small things to ship. If you have larger items or items that might need special handling, you should also make sure that the shipping company is able to accommodate them.

The cost benefits and the flexibility as far as sizes are the two main reasons why you might consider ocean freight shipping to Suriname. With the right shipping company, you can also keep up-to-date on the progress of your shipment and get help with the customs process for your items entering into Suriname.

The key to a successful ocean freight shipment to Suriname is to both find a shipping company that regularly handles this type of transportation and to make sure you package your item carefully. Your shipment should be clearly labeled and items secured inside the shipping container with fragile items wrapped for added security. Provided you follow these instructions, your ocean freight shipment should work perfectly in getting your shipment safely to its destination.

20 tons of cocaine seized by US Coast Guard

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has seized 20 tons or nearly 40,000 pounds of cocaine with a street value of over US$500 million in what authorities call one of the largest cocaine busts in history.

Three busts in total were made in a period of nearly one month. The first on February 19, off the coast of Mexico, March 18 off the coast of Panama and on March 25, also off the coast of Panama.

In the first bust on February 19, “the Ecuadorian-flagged fishing vessel Don Juan K was approached in the Pacific Ocean February 19 off the coast of Mexico while allegedly offloading cocaine into “go-fast” (cigarette-style boat) boats. The fishing vessel’s crew apparently set fire to Don Juan K in an attempt to destroy the evidence and flee in the go-fasts. The USCGC Sherman stopped the go-fasts and recovered about 900 pounds of cocaine as Don Juan K sank. The 14 crew members are being processed for further legal action,” said a statement on the USCG’s website.

The second bust on March 18 yielded nearly 40,000 pounds of cocaine.

“The 330-foot Panamanian-flagged motor vessel Gatun was interdicted in the Pacific Ocean Mar. 18 off the coast of Panama while heading north toward the United States. Sherman’s crew stopped and boarded the vessel and found 765 bales of cocaine weighing approximately 38,000 pounds in two shipping containers. Gatun was escorted back to Panama and its 14 crew members processed for further legal action,” added the statement.

In the third bust on March 25, at least 2,000 pounds of cocaine was seized, also from a ship off Panama’s coast.

“[The] Sherman’s crew stopped and boarded a small stateless go-fast in the Pacific Ocean Mar. 25 off the coast of Panama following a short chase, in which, the go-fast attempted to flee at a high rate of speed. Approximately 2,000 pounds of cocaine was found aboard the go-fast and its four crew members were processed for further legal action,” said the statement.

Several agencies both in the U.S. and in other countries in Central and South America and will continue to investigate the extent of the drug ring.

“The Coast Guard works in close coordination with Joint Interagency Task Force South, U.S. Attorney’s office, Panama Express South, DEA, FBI, Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Customs and Border Protection, as well as the Departments of Justice, State and Homeland Security on counter drug operations in the Pacific Ocean near Central and South America. These drug smuggling routes are some of the most active, yielding roughly 70 percent of the cocaine seized annually by the Coast Guard,” added the statement.

Oil leaking container ship might cause environmental catastrophe

Sunday, January 21, 2007

In the United Kingdom, an anti-pollution operation is under way after the stricken ship MSC Napoli started to leak dangerous heavy fuel oil.

The heavy fuel oil that is leaking from the beached Italian ship is extremely dangerous for the environment. Fear of pollution increased after the ship was further damaged during storms last Thursday. MSC Napoli was beached by Devon coastguards after it suffered heavy structual damage in the gale force storms of Thursday, 18 January 2007, that wreaked havoc across Northern Europe. The ship, which contains 160 containers of hazardous chemical substances, is listing at 35 degrees.

The entire 26-man crew was rescued by navy helicopters Thursday after severe gales. Cracks were found on both sides of the ship, but the current oil leak was not expected.

Around 2,400 containers were carried by the 62,000 tonne ship, some of which contain potentially dangerous hazardous chemicals.

The Coastguards have reported that up to 200 of the containers carrying materials such as perfume and battery acid are loose from the ship and they are looking for missing containers. South African stainless steel producer Columbus Stainless confirmed on Friday that there was at least 1,000 tonnes of nickel on board MSC Napoli.

A hole in the ship flooded the engine room and there’s now fears that the ship will break up. Saturday MSC Napoli was towed to Portland when a ”structural failure” forced the salvage team to beach it. As the storms have continued MSC Napoli has been further damaged.

The authorities have warned people about the pollution, which already has reached the beaches at Devon, but many want to see it on their own. Police have closed Branscombe Beach as more than 20 containers have broken up scattering their contents along the beach.

Sky News reported Sunday that the costs of the accident might be very high as thousands of pounds worth of BMW motorbikes, car parts, empty oak barrels and perfume might get lost in flooding containers.

The Big Four Retail Coffee Shops

The Big Four Retail Coffee Shops

by

Dave Lashier

While drinking a cup of coffee at a local coffee shop I performed some brief research online to discover who were the top retail coffee shops in the United States – and the results are Starbucks, Tim Horton’s, Caribou Coffee, and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. If we start with the largest of the four that would have to be Starbucks, with just over 8,000 U.S. locations. Next comes Caribou Coffee with an impressive 322 locations. Tim Horton’s currently has 292 locations; while Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf has the smallest number of locations coming in with 213 total.

These numbers truly state just how significant a player in the retail coffee industry Starbucks truly is, especially when you must consider that Seattle’s Best, with over 160 locations in the U.S. themselves, is a subsidiary of Starbucks. I bet you did not know that! And of course, there are numerous regional retail coffee shops that did not make this list which would include such establishments as Tully’s, Port City Java and Coffee Beanery to name a few.

The first Starbucks was opened in 1971. Opening their doors at Pike Place Market in Seattle Washington Starbucks was able to capture the hearts of coffee enthusiasts by offering fresh roasted and ground coffee from the very finest coffee beans available from around the world. Most companies have a corporate mission, so what is Starbucks mission? To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time. So if you are in need of a quality cup of coffee you could easily find a Starbucks close to where you are right now. Starbucks currently has over 15,000 retail coffee shops in 50 countries across the world. It would be highly unlikely for your town or area not to have a neighborhood Starbucks coffee shop where coffee lovers can gather and enjoy their favorite coffee drink. And if that was not enough, Starbucks also happens to be the world’s leading coffee roaster as well as retailer of premium specialty coffee.

With locations primarily located in the Midwest and eastern parts of the United States Caribou Coffee has coffee shops located in 15 states. They are certainly a key competitor to the Starbucks brand in those areas where Caribou Coffee Shops are found. A significant loyal customer base has existed for Caribou coffee for over 21 years, ever since they opened their doors in 1990. They say they do not talk about their mission or vision because that is just corporate talk. The goal of the employees at Caribou Coffee is to create a an extraordinary experience that feeds the soul each and every time a customer enters one of their retail coffee shops.

With locations throughout Canada and the United States you can easily locate a Tim Horton’s coffee shop near your town. Tim Horton’s is somewhat different than Starbucks in that they serve donuts with their premium coffee. Very few companies make it beyond the five-year anniversary mark, but Tim Horton’s has been serving premium coffee since 1964. Top quality coffee, a focus on customer service and offering daily fresh products that satisfy their loyal customers are the primary focus of this company.

With a focus on selling coffee products, premium coffee drinks and rare teas coffee bean and tea leaf is a family company that is growing and expanding to become a direct competitor with Starbucks. Due to their commitment to quality Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has been open for business for nearly 50 years, first opening their doors way back in 1963. Pretty impressive isn’t it! Their success is due to their dedication to serving their community and providing a lifestyle quality experience for each patron who enters their establishments.

No matter which of the above mentioned coffee chains serves your favorite coffee, there is one thing that all coffee roasters and coffee fans have in common – passion. So when you have the need for caffeine walk down to your nearest corner and more than likely you will encounter one of these four coffee retailers. Now go and enjoy your coffee!

World Health Organization calls for ban on tobacco ads

Sunday, June 1, 2008

The United Nations health agency the World Health Organization (WHO) has called for a ban on tobacco advertising and promotion in order to protect the world’s children. The news release from the WHO came on Friday, one day before the annual World No Tobacco Day held each year on May 31.

This year’s World No Tobacco Day focuses on highlighting the practices of tobacco companies in their efforts to promote their products to young people. According to a WHO press release, studies show that young people are more likely to start smoking if exposed to tobacco advertising. The WHO notes that only five percent of the world population “is covered by comprehensive bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship”.

“The WHO appeals to member states and policy-makers to require by law a comprehensive ban on all forms of advertising, promotion, and sponsorship of tobacco products,” said WHO Regional Director for Africa Luis Sambo, in a statement released Saturday in Kampala, Uganda.

“In order to survive, the tobacco industry needs to replace those who quit or die with new young consumers,” said WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan. “A ban on all tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship is a powerful tool we can use to protect the world’s youth.”

The WHO said that tobacco companies are specifically targeting the half billion youth in the Asia Pacific region by tying smoking to the idea of a flashy lifestyle. The agency said the tobacco industry attempts to take advantage of children’s susceptibility to advertising and marketing.

According to the WHO most people take up smoking before they reach age 18, and almost twenty-five percent of smokers worldwide are under the age of 10. The agency said that a survey of 13 to 15 year-olds found that fifty-five percent had seen cigarette ads on billboards in the prior month, and twenty-percent owned something with a cigarette company’s logo.

According to BBC News, in the last ten years female and adolescent smoking in Russia has tripled. Russia does not have many anti-smoking laws. BBC News compared this to Canada, where smoking levels are at their lowest in 40 years and the country has very restrictive laws on smoking advertising.

“The tobacco industry employs predatory marketing strategies to get young people hooked to their addictive drug. But comprehensive advertising bans do work, reducing tobacco consumption by up to 16% in countries that have already taken this legislative step,” said Dr. Douglas Bettcher, Director of WHO’s Tobacco Free Initiative.

A report by the WHO on tobacco use stated that approximately two thirds of the planet’s smokers reside in 10 countries including China, India, Indonesia, Russia, the United States, Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, and Turkey. Reuters reported that companies Philip Morris, Imperial Tobacco, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco are among the world’s largest producers of cigarettes.

German retail giant Rewe to open Penny Market stores in Romania

Wednesday, March 30, 2005  German retail corporation Rewe plans to open several Penny Market discount stores in Romania in the middle of this year. Rewe is mainly interested in opening stores in cities such as Ploie?ti, Câmpina, Tecuci, Foc?ani, One?ti, Craiova, Caracal, Constan?a, Medgidia, Alexandria and Ro?iori de Vede. Most of these cities have populations of below 100,000 people, and Rewe is hoping to take advantage of a market that has not been highly tapped into, since most of Romania’s larger cities, such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Ia?i, already have multiple large supermarkets and discount stores.

Rewe also announced that, over the next few years, it intends to open a total of 50 Penny Market and XXL Mega Stores in Romania. Rewe already operates 14 several highly-successful Billa supermarkets throughout Romania, mainly in large cities, as well as 8 Selgros stores. Rewe has previously made announcements that it wishes to expand its Billa and Selgros brands more extensively. The total value of the company’s investment in Romania is around 200 million euro.

Romania is currently going through a retail boom, especially in the supermarket and discount stores area. Large corporations such as Rewe and Carrefour have established very successful branches in Romania, and other retail giants such as Tesco and WalMart have announced their intention to enter the Romanian market, which is the largest in Southeastern Europe.

The mini MAX discount company said it would open three stores in Romania, in April-May of this year, in the cities of Slatina, Târgovi?te and Urziceni. It plans to open up to 100 stores until the year 2010. Meanwhile, Tengelmann, Rewe’s rival, said it would invest 200 million euro in Romania to open 120 supermarkets in the next five years.

It is an excellent product for skin cell regeneration because it contains so many anti oxidizing chemicals. Black seed oil fights the free radicals which attack and damages skin cells. This makes it an excellent product for recovery from exercise or even for daily use. It takes the free radicals away from the cells where they are flushed away in the blood stream.

Black seed oil is a good anti bacterial product because of its germ fighting effects. This makes it good for fighting infection or for general topical use. You can use it to fight acne, dandruff, and other skin ailments. It is useful for application to cuts, scrapes, and burns. I use it sometimes when I shave to guard against the effects of the razor and it really works wonders for my sensitive skin. I don t suffer from rashes and razor bumps when I use it. I don t apply it every day because my skin is too sensitive for me to shave each day. It is also useful for treating burns because it contains many nutrients which feed damaged skin cells.
